திருப்பனங்காடு சிவன் கோவில்

தொண்டை நாட்டின் ஒன்பதாவது சிவத் தலம் எனப் போற்றப்படும் தலம் திருப்பனங்காடு.

பொதுவாக எல்லா மரங்களிலும் ஆண்–பெண் மரம் என்ற வேறுபாடு இல்லை. ஆனால் பனைமரம் மட்டும் ஆண் மரமும் பெண் மரமும் கொண்ட தனிச்சிறப்புடையது. இத்தலத்தின் தலவிருட்சம் பனைமரம் ஆகும். கோயில் பிரகாரத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள இரண்டு பனைமரங்கள், அன்னை–அப்பர் போல அருள் காட்சி தருவது இத்தலத்தின் அழகிய தனிச்சிறப்பாகும்.

இந்தத் திருத்தலம் சோழ மன்னர்களால் முதலில் கட்டப்பட்டது. காலப்போக்கில், தேவகோட்டையைச் சேர்ந்த சிவப்புண்ணிய செல்வர் பெ. ரி. ஏகப்ப செட்டியார் அவர்கள் இக்கோயிலின் திருப்பணியை மேற்கொண்டார். ஒரு வழக்கில் பெற்ற முழுத் தொகையையும் இறைப்பணிக்கே அர்ப்பணிக்க உறுதி கொண்டவர் என்பதே அவரது உயரிய ஆன்மிகப் பெருமையை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது.

இக்கோயில் கருங்கற்களால் கட்டப்பட்ட கலைநயமிக்க அமைப்பாக விளங்குகிறது. இங்கே, சிவபெருமானையும் அம்பாளையும் ஒரே இடத்தில் நின்று தரிசிக்க முடியும் என்பது அரிய சிறப்பு. மேலும், ஏகப்ப செட்டியார் அவர்களின் திருஉருவச் சிலை, இறைவனை தரிசிக்கும் நிலையில் உள் மண்டபத்தில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நூறாண்டுகளைத் தாண்டியும், பெயரும் புகழும் சேர்ந்து வாழும் பாக்கியத்தைப் பெற்றவர் போல, அவர் செய்த திருப்பணி இன்று வரை இத்தலத்தில் நிலைத்துப் பேசுகிறது.

அருள், வரலாறு, தியாகம்—மூன்றும் சங்கமிக்கும் புனிதத் தலமே திருப்பனங்காடு.

இவர்களின் சந்ததியினர் தற்போது கோவிலை நிர்வகித்து வருகிறார்கள்.

The Temple here in this village is the 9th Temple in Thondai Mandalm of those years in Tamilnadu.

Easwar’s Name : Thalapurisar, Kirupanathesurar

Name of the Goddess : Amrithavalli, Kirupanayaki

Sthala Vruksham: Palm Tree

Generally, the tree species are not known for their genders. But the Palm Tree is unique in tree families. A Palm tree is either male or female. Around the temple outer area for circumambulation purpose, pradakshan path, there are two palm trees. These give a feeling of Swami, the Easwar and Ambal, the Goddess giving darsn to the devotees.

The Chola Kings were the ones who in the first building this temple in those centuries. In the later 19th century, people from Nagarathar Community undertook the construction of this temple. Shri P R Yegappa Chettiar from Devakottai won a legal case. Being staunch Shiv Devotee he felt, he spent all the winning proceeds to do thiruppani – holy work of constructing the temple to build this Temple here in this village in the year 1928.  But before the construction work was over Yegappa Chettiar fell ill and at his instructions his son's Palaniappa Chettiar and Manickam Chettiar took the responsibility to complete the work.

In this beautiful temple, the wonder is you can have darsn of both the Lord and His consort at the same time. As advised by Maha Swami  In honor, Shri Yegappa Chettiar’s  statue, in the form of his offering prayer, was also erected before the sancturm.  

So far Kumbabishekam was performed three times – the first in the year 1928 on 5th July, the second on 05th November, 1995 and the latest on 11th December, 2022.

The current generation has been taking good care of this temple, its periodical utsavs.
