Vedapatasala.....Are we having it?


வேத சாஸ்தி்ராப்யாஸத்துக்கு கடிகை, தேவதாராதனத்துக்குக் கோவில் என்று இரண்டையும் நரஸிம்ஹவர்மா நிர்மாணித்ததில் ரொம்பவும் பொருத்தமும் பொருளும் இருக்கின்றன. வேத மந்த்ரங்களைக் கொண்டு செய்யும் ப்ராண ப்ரதிஷ்டையும், கும்பாபிஷேகமும், பூஜைகளுந்தான் தெய்வ ஸாந்நித்யத்தை ஆலயங்களில் உண்டாக்குபவை. வேதம் என்ற வேரிலே ஊன்றி நிற்கும் நம்முடைய ஸநாதன தர்மமென்னும் வ்ருக்ஷத்தில் பழமாகத் தொங்குவதே ஆலயம். எல்லாரும் அநுபவிப்பதற்காக வெளியே தொங்குகிற இந்த ஆலயப் பழம் உண்டாகக் காரணமான வேர் மறைவாக, மறையாக இருப்பதே!

நரஸிம்ஹவர்மா முதலான ராஜாக்களின் வழியிலேயேதான், ராஜாக்கள் எடுபட்டுப் போனபின் நம்முடைய மதத்துக்கு நிரம்பப் போஷணை தந்துள்ள செட்டிப் பிள்ளைகளும் (நகரத்தாரும்) ஒரு கோயிலை ஜீர்ணோத்தாரணம் பண்ணினால் ஒரு பாடசாலை ஏற்படுத்துவது என்று வைத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

We, Nagarathars, do Jeernoththaaranam. Across Temples right from Rameswaram to Kasi.
True, we have Veda chanting.

The question is are we having Vedapatasala any longer, wherever Nagarathars, even overseas, maintain temple, build new ones. It's stupendous, appreciable, commendable tasks. And our people deeply dedicate to these divine causes despite their mundane other responsibilities. Alongside, the custom was to have Vedapatasala. But is this practice, of having a Veda Patasala, continuing? Sad answer is not in the affirmative. Of course, now to get a Priest, in itself, for a lesser known temples is hard. 


As young one accompanying my grandfather every day to our 2 century old beautiful Theena Pillayar Koil, It's so vivid in my mind. There were 4 senior Veda Pundits, sitting in front of Lord Viswanath Sanctum, chanting veda parayanam. I guess we would have had a Veda Patasala too attached to our Theena Pillayar Temple. No idea. Elders in the பங்காளிகள் group may confirm.

ஆத்ம க்ஷேமத்துக்காக நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டுமோ அதிலேயே லோகக்ஷேமத்தையும் பயனாக ஏற்படுத்தித் தருவது வேதம். இந்த இரண்டும் ஏற்பட எது உதவுகிறதோ அது தான் 'தர்மம்' என்பது. அந்த தர்ம மூலமாக வேதம் இருப்பது வாஸ்தவம் தான். வேதோ (அ) கிலோ தர்ம மூலம்.

ப்ரஹ்மோபாதேசம் - Compulsory Education

We all presume that the modern education made compulsory - at the least till school secondary level by post independence Governments - as real education. But what Maha Swami refers to as benign one is ப்ரஹ்மோபாதேசம்.  By imparting this lesson,a Guru initiates a sishya.  Maha Swami cites our sastras make this initiation compulsory. If anyone born as brahman, kshatriya and vaisya doesn't get this ப்ரஹ்மோபாதேசம் initiation, sastras also stipulate exclusion of such non-compliant - ஜாதி பிரஷ்டம் -from their respective community.  Sastras doesn't stop this stipulation just with one who doesn't follow this tradition, sastras go further and mandate exclusion of the descendants of such non-compliants too.(தெய்வத்தின் குரல் vol 4 topic head:  கட்டாயக் கல்வி).
