Kottur - Nainar Kovil

Kottur - Nainar Kovil

Before thinking of the Temple, what flashes the mind is the Sivan Rathri festival there.

And Lord Karuppar gets into our consciousness even ahead of the presiding deity Lord Agastheeswarar and His consort Goddess Sowndaranayaki Ambike.

On the southern side Prakaram, in the mantap in front of Karuppar sanctum,  Lord Kasi Viswanathar with Ambike Vishalakshi bless all devotees. Those looking forward to get married pray here by offering garlands to Lord Vishwanath and Goddess Vishalakshi.

Shri Mayandi Ayya,  grandson of Thinnappa Chettiar and son of Vellayappa Chettiar initiated the temple construction work here quite long before 1818. Construction was over and the very first Kumbabishekam had happened on 10th August 1818. Tamil year :
வெகுதானிய,  வைகாசி 28.

Third Kumbabishekam had taken place on 25th April 1920.  Shri V A PL Ramanathan Chettiar, grandson of Mayandi Ayya.

The lineal descendants of Shri Mayandi Ayya have been taking care and maintaining the temple very well.

The next Kumbabishekam took place on 23 April 1880, thanks to the efforts of A.N. Chidambaram Chettiar.

Location : 5 kms south west of Devakottai.

Karthikai Soma Vara Puja is very famous here besides the master event,  Maha Shivrathri.
